Community Service

Rotary Community Service

At the heart of Rotary is Service Above Self. Rotarians around the world work tirelessly, volunteering their time to make their communities and their world a better place to live. To keep the spirit of service alive, Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation believe that it is vital to provide recognition to those who actively participate in service activities and offer a number of award opportunities for this purpose. Clubs and districts also are encouraged to develop local awards to recognize outstanding service achievements.

Here are some of the Rotary Club of Langley's community projects in 2005-2006:

  • Contributed $20,000 towards construction of the Rotary Centennial Park in Langley City.
  • Contributed $3500 to the Langley Community Music School.
  • Contributed $20,000 towards the $700,000 Rotary Field House at McLeod Athletic Park. Additional funding of $100,000 was obtained from the government of BC, and $50,000 from the Rotary Club of Langley Central.  Langley slow-pitch Softball Association, the Township of Langley and the City of Langley paid the remainder of the cost.
  • Refurbished the bus stop benches and shelters at Langley Memorial Hospital.
  • Held a fundraising dinner for the World Wheelchair Foundation, in conjuction with the Langley Central club and Fraser Vallery Rotaract.
  • Held the annual "Tip 'n Taste" fundraiser in conjuction with the Langley Central club and Fraser Valley Rotaract.
